Wedge Fitting — Bounce & Grind
This is the session Bounce Lab Golf was built around. The loft stamped on the back only tells half the story — bounce and grind decide whether the sole works with the ground under your feet or fights it, and that answer changes from one course to the next.
Feel the Difference Before You Decide
We built a test tray into the bay specifically for this session: three separated lanes loaded with coarse clay-based bunker sand pulled to match local courses, a firm summer-Bermuda turf strip, and a softer overseed-rye strip for winter conditions. You hit real shots through each lane while a slow-motion camera shows exactly how the sole enters and exits.
It's a different experience than reading a bounce number off a spec sheet. Watching a high-bounce sole skip through soft sand, or a low-bounce sole dig into a firm lie, makes the decision obvious in a way a chart alone never quite manages.
Matched to How You Actually Deliver the Club
| Your Tendency | What It Means | General Direction |
|---|---|---|
| Steep, divot-taking swing | Leading edge can dig without support | Higher bounce (10–14°) |
| Shallow, sweeping swing | High bounce can cause the club to skip into the ball | Lower bounce (4–8°) |
| Firm, tight summer turf | Sole needs to glide, not grab | Lower bounce or a cut-back grind |
| Soft, wet winter turf or deep sand | Sole needs support under the leading edge | Higher bounce, fuller sole |
This table is a starting point, not a prescription — your actual number comes from the tray, not a lookup chart.
Sole Shapes We Keep on the Wall
Standard Grind
A versatile all-around sole that performs across a wide range of turf firmness — the default starting point for most bags we fit.
Mid, Heel-Relief Grind
Extra heel and toe relief for players who open the face for flop shots or play firmer, tighter conditions through the summer months.
Full-Sole, Low-Bounce
Favors a shallower attack angle and softer sand or turf, where extra bounce would cause the club to skip rather than glide into the ball.
Clean Distance Steps From Pitching Wedge to Lob
| Wedge | Loft | Typical Carry |
|---|---|---|
| Pitching Wedge | 46° | 115 yds |
| Gap Wedge | 50° | 101 yds |
| Sand Wedge | 54° | 87 yds |
| Lob Wedge | 58° | 71 yds |
Put Your Sole Through the Tray
Wedge fittings run 60 minutes and cover full swings, partial shots, and both sand lanes. Your session fee is credited toward any wedge you order afterward.
